Glance Privacy Policy
Glance is a browser extension for bilingual subtitles on supported streaming sites. This page explains what data Glance processes, why it is processed, and what is shared with Glance services.
What Glance processes
- Authentication information when you sign in. Glance uses your email to identify your account. Your OAuth provider may also supply a display name or profile picture as part of the sign-in flow; this is stored by our authentication infrastructure but not used by Glance.
- Subtitle and page content on supported sites so the extension can render compatibility badges, and related learning features.
- Vocabulary actions such as words you mark or save so your known-word list can sync across sessions.
- Diagnostic information needed to operate the service, investigate failures.
Why Glance processes it
- To authenticate your account and determine access to supporter features.
- To provide subtitle enhancement, and compatibility checks on supported sites.
- To store and sync your learning progress, including saved or known words.
- To keep the service secure and functioning correctly.
What Glance does not do
- Glance does not sell your personal information (we don't even want to have any).
- Glance does not use your data for third-party advertising.
- Glance does not collect browsing activity.
Where data is handled
Authentication and account data are stored on secure cloud infrastructure. For supporter accounts, your known-word vocabulary list is also stored in the cloud to enable sync across browsers and devices. All other processing like subtitle rendering, word highlighting, happens locally in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
When you create an account or reset your password, Glance sends transactional emails (such as verification codes) to your email address via a third-party email delivery service. Your email address is transmitted to that service solely for the purpose of delivering these messages and is not used for marketing.
Retention and security
Glance keeps only the minimum data needed to provide the product. Your data is accessible only to you and is never sold or used for advertising of any kind.
